STEAM

Removed backgroundSTEAM at Prendergast Ladywell School

At Prendergast Ladywell School, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) is delivered through an inspiring curriculum that encourages curiosity, creativity and problem-solving. Students make meaningful links between subjects, applying their learning in real-world contexts through hands-on experiments, design challenges and creative projects. Beyond the classroom, pupils can join exciting clubs such as Robotics, Coding, and our competitive Esports Team, as well as take part in the international FIRST Tech Challenge.

We also work with organisations such as Stemettes, DigData, and Cisco, alongside leading universities including King's College London, UCL, and Imperial College, to provide unique opportunities that promote diversity and inspire future careers in STEM and the creative industries. Through these experiences, students develop technical expertise, collaboration skills and a passion for innovation that prepares them for success in the modern world.

Cipher Challenge + Trip

Well done to Year 7 and 8 students who participated in the National Cipher Challenge + attended the Cipher Security Exhibition at the Science Museum.

The National Cipher Challenge is an annual cryptographic competition organised by the University of Southampton School of Mathematics. Competitors attempt to break cryptograms published on the competition website.

The competition is organised into eight to ten challenges, which are further subdivided into parts A and B. The part A challenge consists of a comparatively simpler cryptogram, and usually provides some useful information to assist in the solving of part B. Part B is usually more complex. In later challenges the cryptograms become harder to break. In the past, cryptograms have been encrypted with the Caesar Cipher, the Affine Cipher, the Keyword Cipher the Transposition cipher and the Vignere cipher.

F1 in Schools-Regional Finals 2019-2020

Congratulations to Year 8 & 9 students participated in F1 in Schools.   This culminated in Ladywell School's entrance to their first F1 in Schools Regional Final.

Entry required a model car to be designed and built to the F1 in schools strict specification.  Further progression in the competition required the whole team's contribution: fast reflexes for competitive starting times,  testing of the car's design at top speed against other schools' entries, knowledge of Newtonian Physics for passing the technical interview and confidence and clarity in delivering a presentation to the F1 in Schools judges.

Women in Aviation-Regional Finalists 2019-2020

An amazing effort from Year 9 students in completing stage 1 and 2 of the Women in Aviation Challenge.  Stage 1 involved a visit to London City Airport, where students learnt about careers in aviation. In addition, students were then tasked with developing a sustainability proposals for London City Airport’s new terminal, which is currently being built as part of a £500 million transformation.  Stage 2 required the students to apply their STEM skills in an aviation-themed context and to deliver a sustainability presentation to a panel of London City Airport representatives. The girls produced a fantastic muliti-media portfolio of work and were on course to excel in the competition prior to Covid lockdown.
