Science

At Prendergast Ladywell school, our science curriculum aims to develop the scientific literacy needed for students to understand the world around them and to make informed decisions that will impact their lives and society.

We meet this aim by introducing students to foundational scientific models and equipping learners with the language to discuss and confidently explain their scientific understanding. Curriculum time is given to developing student’s ability to communicate verbally and explicit links are made between the scientific ideas and learners everyday lives.

Teachers plan and challenge pupils based on the progressive curriculum maps to ensure students’ progress in the depth and breadth of understanding of the big ideas in science.

Students develop the skills to work and think scientifically throughout their time at Prendergast Ladywell School so that they can apply their knowledge of science when using equipment, conducting experiments, and building arguments.

We intend for our curriculum to cultivate and nurture students' curiosity to understand the world around them, so they not only enjoy science, but go on to pursue careers in science and technology.
