Religious Studies
The aim of Religious Studies at Prendergast Ladywell School is to prepare students for the diverse world in which we live. We aim to encourage and foster an enthusiasm for learning about themselves and learning from others.
The Religious Studies curriculum at Prendergast Ladywell covers content based on the Lewisham Agreed Syllabus. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for GCSE study as well as developing well balanced, tolerant 21st century citizens. The curriculum covers the Abrahamic faiths, Dharmic faiths and considers religious, non-religious worldviews and relevant ethical, global and social issues.
Our curriculum aims to teach students how to interpret sources of wisdom and authority and understand their role within society. Students will learn how to present reasoned arguments in discussion and in extended writing opportunities.
Students in years 7 , 8 and 9 have a one-hour lesson each week.
Religious Studies is an optional course at GCSE. Students have 5 hours of RS lessons across a fortnight covering the AQA Specification A course. Students are taught content based on Christian and Muslim beliefs and practices. Students also learn how to apply the teachings of the two faiths to social and moral themes.
